The country is fast
The land of barbel begins to form in the waters of the rivers on the border of the submontane and lowland zones. The watercourse is still characterized by a constant diversity and rich relief of the bearing. Vigorous parts alternate with mid-river pits, In this way, good conditions are created for obtaining food and finding hiding places. The bottom is hard in fast stretches – sandy, gravelly or clayey, on the other hand, quiet bays are easily silted up, leaves accumulate at their bottom. Due to the fertility of the environment (soil fertilization, etc.), the relatively long growing season and other favorable circumstances create very good nutritional conditions for the fish.
In Slovak waters (Polish as well) three species dominate in the fish stock of the barbel region: brzana, chub and mumps. In most Slovak river basins, these fish form more than 50-70 % the mass of the total fish stock. Among other fish typical of this range, pike is the most prominent, asp and zander (next to them there is a roach, certain, perch, krąp i in.). As long as the Slovak watercourses were not polluted, even the Danube salmon found living conditions in this land.
More spacious, deep and calm bays fully correspond to carp, and even bream.
Approximate stocking values of watercourses, which have not been seriously devastated so far (pollution, regulation etc.) can be defined on the level 400-600 kg / ha. More fish participate in the formation of ichthyos – 25 into 28 species. Chubs and mumps should be considered dominant; the barbell has an advantage only in places. The participation of these species comes to 60-75 % fish stock masses (ichtiomasy). The maximum size of ichthyosum mass is above 1000 kg / ha.
