Rules for catching chub by fly

Classic fly fishing, so using standard equipment (the fishing rod 2,4-3 m, 6-8 AFTM, more massive bow ties with lush blackberry on the hooks 6-8), it makes sense to grow under optimal conditions, np. when chubs are clearly at the surface and no dripping leaf or insect passes their attention. In good weather conditions, fishing with a dry fly works, in the wind also wet, when the wind is very strong, it makes no sense to fly. We fish in the open field in a classic way – with the required distance of the bow tie, in streams with inaccessible shores, we can fish by lowering the midge to the surface. As far as it is possible, let's try to get to the willow crown leaning over the water. There is certainly a chub stand beneath it, we will have them at hand! If we take a comfortable position in the tree, and by parting the branches we will ensure a good view and conditions for manipulation, surrounding chubs – of course – we will scare you away. Let us be calm in the tree, and the chubs will come back soon. First, a youth patrol will appear, and behind him imperceptibly, silhouettes of the largest individuals will begin to emerge from all sides. When chubs begin to act carefree, when floated objects taste with confidence, we can throw a previously prepared bow tie. Let us beware of any unnecessary movement, and let the fly slowly sink to the surface. Let us not be tempted by the first opportunity (mainly young fish are impatient), but let's try patiently, Choose your prey with skillful maneuvers. This exciting game always follows the same course: the large pieces we selected stick to the back, pretending disinterest, in fact, they are on standby, and they decide to attack only after several of our successful attempts to discourage the impatient and inconsiderate young fish from the bait. If we are fishing with an artificial fly, we cut it straight away, as soon as the chub with the midge in its mouth is positioned diagonally downwards, when fishing with natural baits, we can allow the fish to partially eat the bait. We also fish using the touch method on a similar basis, then, however, we use even long 5-6 meter long, delicate rod, which allows you to fish also from the bank.

If we have the possibility, we should primarily use natural seasonal lures, especially beetles, first in May, later smaller (the so-called. summer), and during the harvest season the grasshoppers. In the first days of their swarms, beetles are usually caught on the surface using the fly-fishing method. Then the chubs also get used to the cockchafers swimming in the water, so we can change the technique of fishing. Put the cockchafer on the surface on the hook, so that he remains alive as long as possible and that he behaves as naturally as possible. It is best, when it touches the surface with its belly after throwing, because then, wiggling legs and trying to fly away, has a provocative effect on the fish. Leave the line looser, so that the fish can pull the bait without feeling any resistance, even to the depth 50-60 Cm. Let's take our time with the jam; it is enough to react only then, when the baited fish begins to slowly recede.
