Another method among the fishing techniques is something between the classic fly method and a typical spinning. In terms of fishing technique and basic equipment, it is more similar to fly fishing, however, when it comes to the reaction of the fish, we are dealing here more with a type of spinning. Streamers resemble artificial flies, however “in action” in water - as you might suppose – they rather imitate small fish. Anyway, We are dealing here with an extremely effective fishing method. And it is less important whether we catch streamers with fly fishing, or spinning.
Streamers have, among others, this advantage, that they allow the bait to be led slowly, the fish so have enough of the opportunity, to react. For this reason, streamers can be more effective in spring and autumn, when the fish are generally slower and heavier. We throw with the flow, and when the streamer sinks to the bottom we start it gradually, jerky movements (jumping, at most 10 Cm), pull. We can combine pulling the line with our hand with the simultaneous lifting of the rod tip, by which we will achieve a more "tremulous” movement of the lure than was the case with the methods already discussed. We always cast the bait in front of the supposed fish position, so that it has the opportunity to sink to the bottom before the fish reaches the position. On sections promising hopes for success, especially in running waters, we can keep the streamer in one place for longer, because thanks to the current it is still in action”. By such use, its effectiveness increases, especially with larger fish, which, after all, take a long time to prepare an attack. Another advantage of the streamer is this, that even with "empty” fish do not become distrustful and tend to repeat attacks.
We usually fish in running waters. In particularly fast waters, it is also possible to throw diagonally against the stream, because the risk of hooking this lure is not high. An angler who does not specialize in this method can even fish with an ordinary "fly rod"”, the specialist will choose a longer rod (Ok. 2,75 m), stronger (AFTM 8-10) about parabolic action (due to smoother casts). Even a slightly larger reel will be suitable, holding under the rope – just in case – 30 m fishing line backing, because you can count not only with the taking of large trout, but also asps (especially at the end of autumn, as they pull into the depths), bow down, pike, and even zander.
This possibility must be taken into account when building the set – when fishing for trout, we use a leader with a minimum diameter of the line 0,25 Mm, when fishing for lowland predators – even 0,30-0,35 Mm. If we specialize in catching pike with this method, it pays to use a simple metal leader (even so, that it affects "work” Streamer).
When using Bucktails streamers, we are practically dealing with spinning, so when we do not have a fly rod at hand, you can fish with this lure with the help of a typical one, a longer and delicate spinning rod. Due to the easier casting and faster sinking of the lure to the bottom, it can be properly loaded.
Apply the dry fly to the surface of the water, wet - in the depth and at the bottom.
