Catch with a dry fly

If the conditions allow it, we should definitely choose fishing with the dry fly. Fish feeding near the surface creates such a favorable situation, we can hear them sometimes, more often, however, we observe the “circles they create on the water surface”. Therefore, we will have optimal conditions for fishing in moderately fast waters, because here we can easily observe the intensity of feeding and we will be able to observe the bites, which will significantly increase the efficiency of fishing. You can fish for sure”; if we throw a fly on a selected fish (having seen it or guided by the intensity of the "circles”) or "blind” – casting alleged fish positions. If only conditions permit, we fish against the tide, possibly oblique to the current. We throw the fly as gently as possible, that it settles neatly on the surface and flows downstream. Depending on the speed of flow, we shorten the line by winding it or arranging it in loops. A rule must be followed, that the fly should flow freely (the fly is supposed to run off exactly with the current), while the rope must be manipulated like this, so that it does not obstruct the jam. A fly which is held or led too quickly gives an unnatural impression. Soft landing of the bait, followed by a gradual descent of the leader and the line, if just before that we gently slow down their flight by lifting the rod. After the fly has landed, lower the position of the rod and try to manipulate the line properly, that is, we try, that it flows freely with the flow.

Examples of knots used in fly fishing: 1 —4 connecting nodes, 5 - cable fixing knot (or backing) on the reel, 6- connection of the line with the leader,7 – loop for side leader, 8 - tying the hook.

The regulations allow the use of two flies, however, experienced anglers do not take advantage of this possibility and most often only use one fly. Polarizing glasses can be a convenient addition to your equipment when tracking bites. However, there are such situations, when we can only rely on the movement of the link. With a flair – especially when fishing for grayling, you should not delay. It should be quite energetic, but only that, as far as the delicacy of the hook allows, leader and length of the twisted line. After prolonged use, a dry fly soaks up with water and loses its properties, therefore, it should be dried from time to time and, if necessary, lubricated with hydrophobic oil to keep it permanently in its original shape and give it a natural impression.

The essential ways to connect line to leader: A - by pulling the leader with the needle (the so-called. Śimek's way) B - with an end eyelet (Action), C, D, And – pętelka on the line, F - connecting by direct binding

A kind of dry fly fishing is pull-up fishing. We try it out then, when for some reason the classical method cannot be used (weather fluctuations, water level drop, etc.). Also in this case, we avoid unnatural movement of the lure and try to imitate the jumping movement of some insects.. For example, this is characteristic of collar flies, that they fly fast, however, they settle neatly on the surface of the water and take off quickly. Differently cookies; they fly heavily, they sit not very gently on the surface, and their attempts to fly again are also sluggish. A longer rod will be more suitable. We fish with the flow, we let the fly drain, and when it is above the alleged position of the fish, we raise the rod high and through the vibrations of its tip we give the fly a movement imitating short jumps of a live insect.

In spacious waters, where longer casts are needed, we fish with the wind in the back, so the method of "to float”. Here, too, a longer rod will be more appropriate to make better use of the aid of the wind.
