Flatulence

"Złotopiórki": this is what the author calls his favorite fish – rudd. He is now revealing the secret of it, has been going on for decades, "Romance".
The flatulence is wonderful. For over 40 years they are – right after pike my most favorite species of fish. Why them? Well, this question is not easy to answer, for very different reasons have determined this over the years. When I was young, taking the first fishing steps, that is why I liked them, that they could be caught in large numbers. They often took it like crazy. At that time, I was selling them to anglers as bait fish. When I was sixteen, I found out, reddish reddish can replace my trout catch. There was little in my neighborhood
trout waters, and I wanted to dry fly fishing. It started from time to time, when a certain old man taught me, how to use a fly fishing rod. No trout, lipieni, or even chubs, the rudd more than rewarded me and they were great for a dry fly. I was very happy, when I caught my first rudd with a fly. Shortly thereafter, I had a specimen of length on my account 22 Cm. My biggest rudd was measured evenly 38 Cm.

Shelter and food

Running waters are more and more often polluted and it is more and more difficult to find nice specimens of red feathers. Fortunately, there are other fisheries where you can successfully catch these golden-yellow fish. They are clean lakes with coastal reed belts.
Each, eager to catch rudd, should first learn how to reset them in a given tank. These fish prefer clean water with lots of vegetation. Underwater vegetation provides them not only with shelter, but it is food at the same time. Golddecks unlike most other calm-zero fish, they also eat aquatic plants, mainly their softest parts. Apart from that, they feed on insects, snails and various larvae, living on the leaves and stems of plants. The rudd snout is slightly curved upwards, which proves that these fish eagerly eat insects and other food also from the water surface.
Taking into account the above information, it is already known quite well, where and how they should be caught. If in addition it is known. the goldfeathers are cautious and float in flocks, you can start catching them.
In the lake, it's best to fish from a boat. Two anchors are required for a secure and stable anchoring, especially when you want to fish on the border of reeds or near water lilies. It is important to, so as not to anchor the boat in the very fishery, as this causes the fish to run away immediately.
How to choose the best place for a fishery? There are many methods for this. The facilitation is this, that in summer the fish are usually clearly visible and you can hear them from time to time. The rudds then move slowly along the littoral plant belt, just like cows grazing in a pasture do. Then you should determine the direction of their journey and quietly position yourself in the boat there, where they should be.
Personally, I like to look for "eyes” among aquatic plants. In such a place, float fishing brings the best results. It is often profitable to throw in a few pieces of bread or other groundbait. When the rudds appear, I effectively keep them in the fishery for some time: enticing with small portions of white worms. If we are unable to identify the presence of actively feeding fish, it is best to try your luck on the windward side of the lake. Floating food is carried there literally directly into the mouths of the fish, When the water surface is smooth and it is impossible to see fish in the water, prepare a fishery. They look for free places between vegetation and are attracted by floating groundbait or corn or white worms. In the fishery may appear rudd and other fish. When using sinking groundbait, the ground should be set deeper, because the fish zero at the bottom.

A long rod

I mentioned the float before. Some might like to ask, what float do I actually use. Good question, because the rudder float differs in appearance from the usual ones.
At the beginning I will describe, what gear do I use for red feathers. The rod must not be too short. The best rod for fishing with rudd is from 3.6 into 3.9 m. not very stiff. Only a rod with a soft action guarantees correct and easy casting with a light float. My favorite rod is the Tench Float” from the English company Drennan. That's it 3.85 m long and is ideal for fishing with a monofilament diameter 0.14-0.22 Mm. another, also a very good stick, is Euroteam Match” (3.9 m) by Snap. Both of these rods are three-piece and allow for easy casting of a lightweight rig. The rod should be relatively long, because then it is easier to prevent the line from tangling in the leaves, water lilies or in reeds. The tip of such a rod lifted up keeps the line in the air and it does not cause us any problems. Apart from that, taut line allows for much easier hooking, which is often almost impossible, when the line is resting freely on the vegetation. A long rod also provides better possibilities of maneuvering it while hauling a fish among water lilies.

Express fishing reel

For fishing among aquatic vegetation, you need a reel with an efficient brake with a large gear ratio. The ability to wind the line quickly is very important in case of an unsuccessful casting. The high gear ratio also allows the rudd to be quickly hauled out of aquatic vegetation. This reduces the risk of breaking the fish and thus scaring the whole flock.
The choice of fishing line is very important. It should be relatively soft and not very stretchy, be of high strength and be clearly visible. The latter is important for this reason, that rudds often reset intensively towards the very evening and it makes it easier for us to notice a bite. A monofilament diameter is sufficient for fishing for rudd in a place without vegetation 0.16 Mm, because large specimens of these fish, however, are very rarely found in the free parts of the water. Nevertheless, I prefer to use a monofilament with a diameter 0.20-0.22 Mm. High-quality fishing lines of this thickness are approx 4 kg of strength. An attentive reader might object at this point: This is way too much, like fishing, which rarely reach a mass over 1 Kg. But let's count: 1 kg of fish + 2 kg of "collected weed” + 1 kg to water resistance – gives us 4 Kg. Apart from that, what will happen, when he unexpectedly takes a beautiful tench or carp. In such a situation, the 0.22-mm line will certainly not be too thick.

A special float

For over 10 I have been fishing for rudd with a special floating float for years, which is perfect for aquatic vegetation. It is relatively small, it has a barrel shape and is pulled over the line through a hole running along its axis. Previously, I used peacock floats with floats, but they failed very quickly. Ultimately, I gave them up, when my hundredth broke. A special dwarf float is clearly visible, but only for the angler, not for fish. It has a black body, and the tip protruding above the water is yellow or orange. This float is made in several sizes. My favorite is its smallest model.

The rudd hook should not be too small. These fish like to use large lures, which with a small hook would lead to too many blank jams. In my opinion, the best numbering hooks are from 2 into 4.

Big bait

As I already mentioned, the lure must not be too small. I like to catch large rudds, that is, copies from 30 cm upwards. Speed, with which they grab and swallow a large bait, it is truly amazing. So we can safely say in this case – big bait is big fish. To, whether they are foraging at the moment, or not, I don't mind putting it on the hook 10-15 white worms. I also achieved good results on "sandwiches", it is for white worms planted together with the earthworm. If we don't have white worms and we fish with slurry, then we also put a few of them on the hook. I am much more likely to fish with a bunch of not too large red worms, than for one large rosewood.

Finally, I would like to add a few more practical comments :
– the line must be greased: Thanks to this, it does not sink in water and does not catch on vegetation:
– in the event of a hook, I try to detach it by pulling the line, even if I were to break it. Even, if it breaks off with the float, I don't move from a chosen place. I only go to pick up the broken floats after I'm finished fishing. In this way, I do not scare the fish in the fishery and I do not waste my chances for good bites:
– if after catching a few red feathers there is no through 10-15 minutes, no strikes, this fishery should be abandoned. I was moving while fishing, mostly between 4 the 5 good places and I always got better results than when fishing in the same spot all the time:
– the angler's clothing on the boat should not be garish. The speed at which rudds can notice, that something is wrong, she is amazing. The farther from the reed belt we will anchor the boat, the better the results will be.

I guess, that after these deliberations it will be easier for you to start catching large rudds. Try it and you will find out, what a pleasure it is to extract this "living gold."” straight from the water.
